Well, almost...

Last night's blinding knitting-related revelation was that a lifeline will not help you if you have cast on the wrong number of stitches in the first place, and you only discover this when you make it as far as the first pattern row and run out of stitches in the middle...

  1. Ouch! Your second best friend after the lifeline is stitch markers or, in a pinch, paperclips (or something similar). Clip 'em onto your needle (not onto your yarn) between stitches every tenth stitch of your cast on ... makes it much harder to miscount your stitches when you can confidently go 10, 20, 30 ... instead of 1, 2, 3 ...

Whatever you use as a counting marker can then just be slipped off the needle as you knit your first row.

  2. Hi, thanks for your comment :) Another friend has recommended stitch markers to me as well, I think I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of them - I use them religiously when crocheting in the round, it shouldn't be too hard to get used to using them when knitting as well. Thank you :)
